FOURTH FRIDAY INVITES COMMUNITY TO EXPLORE AND CELEBRATE TAMPA’S ARTS & CULTURE SCENE

FREE Wristband is the Ticket to Special Programs and Exclusive Offers at Dozens of Downtown Museums, Galleries, Theaters and Restaurants on September 28

TAMPA, Fla. (September 28, 2018) – On the Fourth Friday of each month, Tampa’s arts and culture scene is celebrated with participating venues offering free or reduced admissions, special programming, and local restaurants offering specials to patrons with the iconic Fourth Friday wristband. Now in its second year, Fourth Friday, presented by TECO Energy, and brought to you by the Tampa Downtown Partnership, announces its lineup for this month’s event on Friday, September 28:

This month’s Featured Offers are:

  • Florida Museum of Photographic Arts: Located at 400 N. Ashley Dr. in Downtown Tampa, FMoPA celebrates Fourth Friday from 5 – 7pm with Pay-As-You-Will admission, refreshments, and a discussion panel about the City of Tampa’s Photographer Laureate Collection currently on exhibition at FMoPA. The panel will be discussing how images construct our notion of history. They will be recognizing the value of a photographic archive and what that means for a city, from a curatorial view. In the FMoPA Community Gallery – An exhibit of architectural photography from the FMoPA / TBFAD amateur competition. Winners will be recognized at 6pm. 

  • Henry B. Plant Museum: Located at 401 W. Kennedy Blvd. on the University of Tampa campus, the Museum celebrates Fourth Friday from 4 – 5pm with free admission and audio tours. This month, enjoy a pop up station of Gourmet Pops from Whatever Pops in Seminole Heights.  The pop up station “Gourmet Pops on Us” helps raise awareness for Norma Gene Lykes’ Foundation, supporting the City of Tampa Public Parks and outdoor events.

  • Le Méridien Tampa Hotel: Located at 601 N. Florida Ave. in Downtown Tampa, Le Méridien celebrates Fourth Friday from 5:30 -- 10pm. They will offer a 30-minute tour of their historic discovery moments at 5:30pm. Bizou will offer extended happy hour until 8pm, live music from 7-10pm and a specialty $8 Fourth Friday cocktail, “Kendra’s Court,” a deliciously sparkling cocktail to match the sparkling jewelry on display. The first 10 guests to purchase this Fourth Friday cocktail at our Longitude Bar (first floor) will receive a special gift from Kendra Scott – a beautiful nail lacquer.

  • Rialto Theatre: Located at 161 N Franklin St in Tampa Heights, the Rialto celebrates Fourth Friday from 6 – 9pm with free admission to the gallery reception of “My World in Color” by Mary Mirabal. Join for light snacks and wine while chatting with the artist. 

  • Straz Center: Located at 1010 N Macinnes Place in Downtown Tampa, the Straz Center celebrates Fourth Friday from 6:30 – 9pm with a free evening of music, poetry, spoken word and dance celebrating and featuring creative threads from the rich tapestry of Tampa Bay’s Hispanic culture during “Celebrating Hispanic Heritage.” Promotions available at the ticket office window include; $10 off tickets to The Naked Magicians on October 11, $10 off tickets to the Griffin House on October 22, and $30 off tickets to The Choir of Man on November 2-3. Limit of two tickets per show. On-site bars will be open on property and along the Riverwalk.

  • TECO Public Art Gallery: Located at 702 N. Franklin St. in Downtown Tampa, TECO Public Art Gallery celebrates Fourth Friday from 5:30 –8pm with free admission and a Talk and Tour with artist Jake Fernandez. Meet the artist and get a tour of his exhibition titled, Black and White. The exhibit is a selection of Jake’s mixed media black and white drawings that offer a rare chance to explore the artists’ final, large-scale work at the early, most informative stage.

  • Italian Club: Located at 1731 E. 7th Avenue in Ybor’s Historic District, the Club is open from 5-10pm for Happy Hour in the Cantina with LIVE Music, $2 Wells, $3 Domestic Beer, $4 Homemade Sangria, $5 Call Brands, and $6 Two for One MASI Wine until 7pm!  $13 Homemade Italian Dinner Buffet also available! Enjoy the oldest historical leader and the voice of the Italian community here in Tampa.

  • Jobsite Theater: Housed in the Shimberg Playhouse at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts, Jobsite Theater celebrates Fourth Friday by offering 30 percent off regularly priced tickets when you subscribe to the remaining five productions in Jobsite’s 20th Anniversary season. Promotion is only valid for tickets purchased at the ticket office window.

  • John F. Germany Library: Located at 900 N. Ashley Dr. in Downtown Tampa, John F. Germany Library celebrates Fourth Friday from 4 – 6pm. This month, the Library challenges visitors to match the right article titles to the correct photographs. Come on up to the Florida History and Genealogy Collection on the 4th floor and take a Tampa Bay History Magazine quiz and attempt to win a prize.

  • The Portico Cafe: Located at 1001 N Florida Ave. in Downtown Tampa, The Portico Café celebrates Fourth Friday from 6 – 9pm with Open Mic Night, a café art exhibit, and a free muffin with the purchase of a specialty coffee. The event and exhibit are free and open to the public.

  • Stageworks Theatre: Located at 1120 E Kennedy Blvd. in the heart of the Channel District, Stageworks Theatre celebrates Fourth Friday by offering $10 off all shows purchased between 4pm and 5:30pm on Fourth Friday.

  • Tampa Museum of Art: Located at 120 W Gasparilla Plaza in Downtown Tampa, the Museum celebrates Fourth Friday from 4 – 8pm with pay-as-you-will admission*. From 5-8p, Happy Hour on the River…Enjoy the Riverwalk Café at TMA by SaltBlock Hospitality featuring Boat Run Oyster bar and specialty Riverwalk Café cocktails to “stroll and go” along the Riverwalk. Special 10% discount at the Museum Store too! *Yayoi Kusama: LOVE IS CALLING installation is not included in pay as you will admission. Admission to Yayoi Kusama: LOVE IS CALLING is $15.00 and includes access to all TMA exhibitions. Timed tickets are recommended and available at TampaMuseum.org. Access to other galleries except Kusama are pay as you will.

  • Ybor City Visitor Center: Located at 1600 E. 8th Ave. in Ybor City, Ybor City Visitor Center celebrates Fourth Friday from 4 – 5pm with a free entry, 10% off in their gift shop, and viewing of the Ybor City National Historic Landmark District Video.

Fourth Friday participants can pick up a wristband at any of the participating cultural venues during event hours. Then, just park once and let Downtown’s many alternative transportation options do the rest. Take a complimentary ride on the TECO Line Streetcar, stroll along The Tampa Riverwalk, cruise the Hillsborough on the Pirate Water Taxi, hail the FREE Downtowner ride service with an app on your smartphone, or saunter along 7th Avenue in Ybor, Tampa’s only Historic District.
