FOURTH FRIDAY INVITES COMMUNITY TO EXPLORE AND CELEBRATE TAMPA’S ARTS & CULTURE SCENE

FREE Wristband is the Ticket to Special Programs and Exclusive Offers at Dozens of Downtown Museums, Galleries, Theaters and Restaurants on may 24

TAMPA, Fla. (May 24, 2019) – On the Fourth Friday of each month, Tampa’s arts and culture scene is celebrated with participating venues offering free or reduced admissions, special programming, and local restaurants offering specials to patrons with the iconic Fourth Friday wristband. Now in its third year, Fourth Friday, presented by TECO Energy, and brought to you by the Tampa Downtown Partnership, announces its lineup for this month’s event on Friday, May 24. New this month, the Tampa Downtown Partnership is partnering with Fourth Friday to offer a Bike Month contest!

FOURTH FRIDAY CONTEST

The Tampa Downtown Partnership is putting a bike spin on our monthly Fourth Friday event and Memorial Day holiday weekend. Free commemorative Bike Month spoke cards can be collected by patrons arriving via bicycle to the newly inducted Bicycle Friendly Businesses (BFBs) all Memorial weekend*. Don’t have a bike? Not to worry! We’ve partnered with Coast Bike Share to offer a FREE day pass using code FOURTHFRIDAY42019 (case sensitive).

Kick-off Memorial Day Weekend with some @FourthFridayTPA festivities. Ditch your car and bike to one, or all, of #tampasdowntown arts & culture venues to win fun prizes! @floridaaquarium, @tampabayhistory, @strazcenter @tampamuseumofart and @glazerchildrensmuseum recently joined the Bicycle Friendly (BFB) program & we want you to post your best #BikeTPA moment.

This month’s Featured Offers are:

  • AIA Tampa Bay: Located at 1315 East 7th Avenue in the heart of Ybor City, AIA Tampa Bay celebrates Fourth Friday from 5:30-7:30pm with the opening reception featuring USF School of Architecture and Community Design works titled "THE DECONSTRUCTION OF THRESHOLDS". The exhibit will feature an array of art and architectural prints and models by students as well as AIA Tampa Bay $3,000 Scholarship project winner! Free to attend, open to all. Enjoy light snacks and refreshments. Donations are welcome.

  • Jobsite Theater: Located inside the Straz Center, Jobsite Theater is thrilled to celebrate Fourth Friday Tampa this May with $10 off our production of Lucy Kirkwood's HEDDA that night from the Straz Center Box Office window as of noon. Limit 1 per wristband. Doors open at 7:30pm, show is at 8pm. This offer is not valid on prior sales and is subject to availability. 

  • John F Germany Library: Located at 900 N. Ashley Dr. in Downtown Tampa, John F. Germany Library celebrates Fourth Friday from 4-6pm. Get prepared for summer by stopping in to create a summer bucket list jar and find out about some great summer events happening around Tampa.  We are also celebrating National Bike Month by creating spoke cards with book pages.  Drop in anytime during the event to try join the fun.

  • Le Méridien Tampa Hotel: Located at 601 N. Florida Ave. in Downtown Tampa, Le Méridien celebrates Fourth Friday with a Tour of the Century starting at 5:30pm, extended happy hour pricing until 8pm, and live music from 6-9pm. All tour attendees get 20% off of dinner – food only – in Bizou after the tour! Happy Hour cocktails mixed by Bizou mixologists include Amador Old Fashioned, Amador Maple Bacon Old Fashioned, Amador Mule, and the Amador Sazerac. Enjoy Amador Bourbon samples from 5-7pm!

  • The Portico: Located at 1001 N. Florida Avenue, The Portico celebrates Fourth Friday with Open Mic Night from 6-9pm with Endre Blaq, K Delore and Jasey Soulz welcoming local artists to share their talents with downtown Tampa during this special Fourth Friday event. This month’s Fourth Friday also includes a special time to meet our latest featured cafe artist, Teresa Navajo. Take this time meet this proudly self-taught artist that loves working with insects. Her exhibit will be on display through June. Also, beginning at 4pm, buy one specialty coffee drink and receive a free muffin!

  • Stageworks Theatre: Located at 1120 E Kennedy Blvd. in the heart of the Channel District, Stageworks Theatre celebrates Fourth Friday by offering $15 tickets to the Some Sort of Show season finale on May 24th for tickets purchased online using code: Some sort of finale. Show starts at 7:30pm. Visit their Facebook event page for information on purchasing tickets.

  • Straz Center: Located at 1010 N Macinnes Place in Downtown Tampa, the Straz Center celebrates Fourth Friday from 4pm-8pm with $10-$15 off tickets in select locations to Rock of Ages, running June 11-16. Must present wristband at the Ticket Office window on Fourth Friday, May 24. Limit of 2 tickets.

  • Tampa Theatre: Located at 711 N. Franklin St. in Downtown Tampa, the Theatre’s lobby will be open for guests from 4:30pm-6:30pm for their Pause Happy Hour. Along with Pause Happy Hour, Tampa Theatre will celebrate opening night of the film The Biggest Little Farm (2019) at 7:30pm, with theatre doors opening at 6:30pm (film tickets is required). To celebrate opening night, the landmark movie palace has called together some of the Bay area’s best small farms, sustainable businesses, and environmentally friendly entrepreneurs for a Franklin Street Farmer’s Market from 5:30-7:30pm under the historic marquee. Guests can enjoy samples, sales and information from a growing list of organizations, including:

    o   TrailBale Farm of Temple Terrace, specializing in organic fed, sensibly raised, pastured meat and eggs

    o   The Tampa Bay Beekeeper's Association, which includes hobbyists, commercial and migratory beekeepers, and enthusiasts who share a common interest in bees

    o   Waldenponics, a community focused business providing urban agroecology to the greater Tampa Bay area

    o   Whitwam Organics, a registered nursery in Tampa specializing in garden bed installations and education

    The first 200 participants will receive a FREE Tampa Theatre reusable grocery bag, and guests are also invited to drop off their unwanted wires, batteries, phones and other electronics for recycling, courtesy of Urban E Recycling.   • TECO Public Library: Located at 702 North Franklin St in the heart of Tampa's Downtown, the TECO Public Art Gallery celebrates Fourth Friday from 5-7pm with Artist Heather Rippert in her solo exhibition titled ‘Transitions’ running through June 28, 2019.  Fine Artist Rippert will host a Talk & Tour of her exhibition on Fourth Friday, May 24, 2019 from 5-7pm at TECO Public Art Gallery.  She will talk about her beautiful paintings, what inspires her to paint and why she says “She Dreams in Watercolor”. This event is Free and Open to the Public.

  • Florida Museum of Photographic Arts: Located at 400 N. Ashley Dr. in Downtown Tampa, Florida Museum of Photographic Arts celebrates Fourth Friday from 5-7pm with three new exhibitions and refreshments. Enjoy Contemporary Performance featuring work from many contemporary photographers, this exhibition explores the use of photography and videography to capture narratives through performance. Take a journey through Alzheimer's as experienced by the photographer's husband and imagined by the photographer with Olivia Parker: Vanishing in Plain Sight. The final exhibit is Viktor Freso: Family Tree. Viktor Freso is an artist who lives and works in Czechoslovakia. His work spans various media, including photography and sculpture. In this series, Viktor creates an abstract Family Tree using photography. 

  • Glazer Children’s Museum: Located at 110 W Gasparilla Plaza on the edge of Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, GCM celebrates Fourth Friday from 5:30 to 7:30pm with Fourth Friday Drop-Off Camp. Drop your kids off at GCM then enjoy your evening downtown with all that Fourth Fridays have to offer! Your little learners will imagine, discover, and connect to the world around them at Camp Imagination. Pick up a wristband and let the kids play! Presale $25 for the first child, $20 for each additional child in a household. At the Door $35 for the first child, $30 for each additional child in a household. Please note: Presale Registration ends at 11:59pm on the Thursday before Fourth Friday. After 12am on Fourth Friday, ONLY At the Door tickets will be available upon arrival. At the Door registration will be available until 6:30pm.

  • Henry B. Plant Museum: Located at 401 W. Kennedy Blvd. on the University of Tampa campus, the Museum celebrates Fourth Friday from 4-5pm with free admission and audio tours.

  • Tampa Museum of Art: Located at 120 W Gasparilla Plaza in Downtown Tampa, The Museum celebrates Fourth Friday from 4 – 8pm with pay-as-you-will admission* and self-guided tours. From 5-8p, Happy Hour on the River…Enjoy the Riverwalk Café at TMA by SaltBlock Hospitality featuring specialty Riverwalk Café cocktails to “stroll and go” along the Riverwalk. Special 10% discount at the Museum Store too!

  • Unlock Tampa Bay Visitors Center: Located at 201 N Franklin St., Suite 102 in Tampa City Center, the visitors center celebrates Fourth Friday from 4-8:30pm. The location on the ground floor exterior of Tampa City Center is the perfect spot to stop in for a shirt, artwork or other gift that shows your Tampa Bay pride! Join us each Fourth Friday as we extend our hours into the night, turning the Visitors Center into a vibrant meet-up spot for your Friday night adventure! While browsing our Tampa-centric shop, sample our private label lager and IPA beers, and then meet and greet with our favorite local artisans and entrepreneurs as they show off their favorite work.

  • Ybor City Visitor Center: Located at 1600 E. 8th Ave. in Ybor City, Ybor City Visitor Center celebrates Fourth Friday from 4-5pm with a free entry, 10% off in their gift shop, and viewing of the Ybor City National Historic Landmark District Video.

Fourth Friday participants can pick up a wristband at any of the participating cultural venues during event hours. Then, just park once and let Downtown’s many alternative transportation options do the rest. Take a complimentary ride on the TECO Line Streetcar, stroll along The Tampa Riverwalk, cruise the Hillsborough on the Pirate Water Taxi, hail the FREE Downtowner ride service with an app on your smartphone, or saunter along 7th Avenue in Ybor, Tampa’s only Historic District.
